Sciatica
Along the sciatic nerve, pain radiates from the lower back into the buttock and the back of the leg. This nerve is becoming irritated and Dr. Lew will determine its locale.
Neck & Back Pain
Subluxation is the culprit. This is a slight misalignment of the vertebrae which will cause different degrees of pain in the neck or back. A subluxation however can occur in any joint of the body. The proper diagnosis and treatment by Dr. Lew who has over 25 years of experience can help in alleviating your discomfort.
Golfer's / Tennis Elbow
Also known as Medial & Lateral Epicondylitis. This is Inflammation of the tendons that join the forearm muscles on the outside of the elbow. The forearm muscles and tendons become damaged from overuse.
Spinal Stenosis
The narrowing in one or more areas of the spine as a result of injury or deterioration to the discs, joints or bones within the spinal canal. This may result in spinal cord or nerve root compression.
Whiplash
Though usually associated with car accidents, whiplash can occur when any impact / blow / force causes your head to jerk forward or backward. The sudden force stretches and tears the tendons and muscles in the neck.
Foot Pain
A series of spinal nerves from your lower spine travel down your legs and end in your feet. When the nerve roots (part of the nerve as it exits the spine) of these spinal nerves are irritated or compressed, foot pain can occur. Foot pain can also occur if a nerve is compressed near your hip, knee, or in your foot.
Muscle Spasms
When a muscle or group of muscles contract, spasms can be the result. Most commonly, this is a symptom of an injury or problems related to disc protrusions and joint subluxation.
Fibromyalgia
Widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue and mood issues. Woman are much more likely to develop fibromyalgia than men. Also associated with this are; headaches, anxiety and depression. While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, exercise, relaxation and chiropractic intervention can help.
Carpal Tunnel
Caused by a pinched nerve in the wrist, carpal tunnel syndrome is a hand and arm condition that causes numbness and tingling. Underlying health issues as well as patterns of hand use can be attributed to this syndrome.
Osteoarthritis
Affecting millions of people worldwide, this is the most common form of arthritis. This occurs when the protective cartilage at the ends of the bones wear down. With no cure, there are several ways of managing osteoarthritis. Staying active and maintaining a healthy weight along with chiropractic joint manipulation can provide much needed relief.
Sports Related Injuries
Injuries and participating in sports do unfortunately go hand in hand. Whether you are a professional athlete or one who pretends to be in the back yard, you will require the correct diagnosis and treatment to help get you back in the game. Dr. Lew specializes in Trauma Related Accidents/Injuries. Because a one size fits all approach doesn't work, we perform a comprehensive evaluation and recommend the proper course of action that fits your lifestyle and ability. Working together, we can put the injuries and pain back on the sidelines where they belong.
Tendonitis
Inflammation or irritation of a tendon (one of the thick fibrous cords that connects muscle to bone). Sometimes referred to as tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, swimmer's shoulder, etc.
Headaches
Although there are many different types of headaches, the most common are: migraine, cluster headache and tension headache. Spinal manipulation may give sufferers immediate relief when the source of the headache originates from the neck.
Muscle Strains & Ligament Sprains
Overuse and injury are the most common reasons for muscle strains and ligament sprains. Rehabilitative exercise and modalities is the usual approach to treatment along with bracing and even massage therapy.
Spondylolisthesis
This is a condition where a bone in the back (vertebrae) slides forward over the one below it. This may lead to the spinal cord or root nerves being pinched / squeezed. Symptoms may show as back pain, numbness or weakness in one or both legs / arms. This mostly occurs in the lower spine.
Herniated Disc / Disc Protrusion
Here is a condition where an abnormal bulge or breaking open of a spinal disc occurs. Most common in the neck and lower back, this protrusion can either be a result of a one time event (bending over, violent sneezing, twisting of the body, severe trauma) or simply happen over a long period of time. Pain and numbness is most likely to be felt in the arms or legs as a result. Though we can help manage this occurrence, there may be a point in time where a surgical approach would need to be considered. We have orthopedic doctors to refer for a consultation should this become an option. We will even set up the appointment for you right here in our office.
Shoulder Injuries
Very common. Rotor cuff injuries can really make day to day living a nightmare. Tendon strains respond well to our all in approach. Resistance exercises, ultrasound, ice, and friction massage are a few angles of approach. If a partial or complete tear is suspected, an MRI will be necessary for an accurate account of the injury. Remember, we have orthopedic surgeons ready for referral.
